Day to Day at EMI
A Day in the Life

From the Front Range of Colorado, to the foothills of the Himalayas, to the shores of Lake Victoria, to the rainforest of Costa Rica, to the Canadian Rockies..EMI interns spend their days working and serving at EMI. In each office it is all a bit different, you may wake up in a host home or you may wake up next to other EMI'ers in the home/office compound! You may simply roll out of bed and walk to another room to begin your workday or you may take a bus or drive your car to begin your workday.

One thing that is common is that the day will begin in prayer. Each office starts the day praying for our personal needs, projects, and those located in other offices. After prayer, each staff member and intern goes to their desk and begins the day with the engineering and architecture work that is set before them. The tasks of an intern vary from AutoCAD drafting to writing reports, from architectural design to engineering design, ...even helping do other things around the office like binding reports.

There are others who wake up while it is still dark and begin their journey to the construction site of the day. The day is full of communicating with nationals about the design and verifying that the project is built as designed. You may even have an opportunity to help them build depending on the project. Our interns are involved in various ministry activities throughout the week such as serving meals at the local soup kitchen, walking to local villages to help with medical clinics, and just playing with local children! Our interns participate in Bible Studies at the office and in some offices the intern is assigned a mentor to meet with once a week to encourage spirtitual growth while here at EMI. The offices where "official" mentoring doesn't occur, the interns have the privilege of living and working with our staff, thus strong relationships are formed due to the size of staff and the nature of the situation.

The focus of the EMI interns is the work that is put before them in the fields of engineering and architecture, although we greatly encourage and coach people in their walks with the Lord.
