Project Scope
Immediately after the January 12, 2010 earthquake, Grace International (a well-established Haitian ministry) opened its doors to 20,000 people to live temporarily on its hospital property. They have since been pouring out aid for the benefit of the Haitian people. Today there is a bustling tent city there, but it isn't meant to be permanent. Grace International is undertaking a new and monumental task of developing partnerships, acquiring land, and vetting potential business opportunities in order to develop new sustainable communities where the people of the tent city can resettle in permanent homes and find adequate income generation opportunities to sustain their families. In November 2010, EMI sent the first of potentially many teams after Grace Int'l showed a readiness to move forward with development of its first small community of 60-90 homes on 6 acres of land in Lambi (near Carrefour and the tent city). While in Haiti, the EMI team was shown a second 48 acre piece of land that was being acquired to the north of Port-au-Prince at Lafiteau.

EMI is mobilizing a team now to layout the community master plan for the Lafiteau property which will include about 18 acres developed for residential purposes and about 30 acres developed for agri-business. The team will focus on the Lafiteau property by developing a community master plan with sufficient detail for Grace to build houses and set up needed infrastructure including well water supply, VIP latrine / greywater disposal, solid waste, drainage, and roads. Architectural design for a community multi-purpose building is needed along with expertise in developing the land for agriculture and agri-business. The land has a narrow section with coastal frontage. In addition, as Grace International moves forward they need the help of EMI to develop a flexible conceptual programming document which can be used to develop numerous and different pieces of property into viable communities using a practical level of "green" technologies. This EMI team will seek to provide such a document. Grace International, a Haitian based ministry, is learning much on the fly and has done well in overseeing its tent city which developed overnight. They have started land development for the small community in Lambi. Now EMI will help them plan this larger community in Lafiteau. Come and be a part of this rewarding effort to bless Haitian people and join a legacy of faith and demonstration of God's love.
