Our Story
For both my wife, Joy, and I, Christ took a hold of our lives in our teen years. Our story is how the Lord has gradually knit our hearts together with a passion to reach the world for Christ. Coming from varying family backgrounds, including my own bi-cultural experience, we were challenged about world missions through involvement with InterVarsity as architecture students at the University of Florida. Our call to missions since then has been a continual unfolding and stretching of the heart. God has used our own brokenness and given us a heart for those who are hurting and lost and thirst for more. We are humbled with opportunities to spur others on toward the person, the redeemer, we all thirst for, Christ.

When we were first married we thought it would be only a brief time before we would go to the mission field. However, the LORD had much more to do in the twenty years since then before we would find the same joy in pursuing, with abandon, that dream. EMI has been the doorway. We were introduced to eMi through a mutual friend who had returned from designing an orphanage on an eMi trip in Central America. Hearing his experience awakened our vision toward integrating architecture with world missions. It took me quite a number of years though of receiving emails (and deleting them full of various excuses) before I committed to my first trip as a volunteer. In the fall of 2002, I was in a men's study reading Eldredge's Wild at Heart. As we were working through the final chapter, "The Adventure to Live", another eMi project email came across. God used that timing to clearly call me to that trip, through many years of His preparing me and daring me to live fully. So on that initial trip in 2003 to Cairo, along with 8 ensuing trips since then, I have experienced the joy of God using a specific passion and skill that He has equipped me with in combination with extending the hope of the Gospel in cultures that have been narrowly reached. All this while coming to grip with tremendous poverty and injustice in the world. This exposure catalyzed my desire, our desire as a family, to become fully engaged in serving Him throughout the world - in any place and with any people.

Recently, the LORD has ignited our faith and continues to refine our dependence on Him by opening the opportunity for me to come on staff. Certainly leaving family and our well established friends and lives back in Florida has challenged each of us, kids included, to the core. However we know that is where we need to be in order to remain fully alive in Christ. We are excited to see what the LORD has for us beginning an entirely new course for our lives.

Verses to Live By
"I am the vine: you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing… If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples…. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be full in you, and that your joy may be full." (John 15:5-11)

"…so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable (extravagant) riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one can boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Eph. 2:7-10)

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory…" (Eph. 3:20)
