My Story
I am the third generation of my family born in Los Angeles, California and I attended church with my family when I was young. However, when we moved to a ski resort town in the Sierras when I was in junior high school we stopped going to church. I instead enjoyed skiing weekends & being at the top of my class. I then went to college and was no longer a big fish in a small pond. I encountered many new experiences (that a small town does not have) in college. I also had a roommate who kept asking if I wanted to go to church with her, instead I would go sailing on Sunday. One day I accepted her invitation to go to her church and see a movie. It was the beginning of the school year, nothing to do, a Sunday night and no homework - why not! The movie they showed was A Thief in the Night and I totally identified with the lead female character. When they gave an altar call at the end of the movie, I shot out of my chair and stood there with trembling knees while my two roommates on either side of me cried with joy. They discipled me those first years, we are still good friends, and I have been walking with Christ ever since.

Professional Training and Experience
B.S. Architectural Engineering, California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, 1981
Professional Engineers License, California & Colorado

After graduating from college, I went to work for a structural engineering firm in Los Angeles. I was laid off during the Reagan recession, got married and then went back to work for a structural engineering firm that did work for Frank O. Gehry. Then my husband, an Air Force officer, & I accepted the great adventure; God kept Bob in the Air Force (originally he was going to leave after four years) and we moved to Ohio. I worked for an EA firm that is multidiscipline and designed tilt-up, monorails and light industrial buildings. The Air Force then moved us to Germany for four years where I participated in a variety of volunteer work including the Red Cross the Protestant Women of the Chapel and a European wide Billy Graham ProChrist. We then moved from Germany to our nation's capital, Washington, DC. I worked at first at a structural engineering firm, then at a national AE firm before the Air Force moved us to Colorado Springs. While unpacking I found the EMI newsletter and called them looking for information about local engineering firms. I did some consulting work but in February 1999, I was asked to try some volunteer work at EMI. I came in once a week, realized their need for a structural engineer and I have been with them part-time, three days a week, ever since.

Ministry Experience
I had actually never been on a short term trip until my first trip with EMI. Although I had participated in ministry work while living in Germany.

If God told me to live long term in a cross-cultural setting, the country I would chose...
Good question - He brought us to Germany with the Air Force for four years and it was His hand that got us there. We attended a German American church and participated in a variety of ministry work in German towns and cities. We also learned German and lived in German apartments.

Verses to Live By
It is the first scripture I memorized when I was a baby Christian and it is a great reminder. Ephesians 2:8,9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, a gift from God, that no one should boast"
