India...a nation desperately seeking God and hungry for the knowledge of truth. The people of this land are more responsive to the Gospel now than ever before, and Jesus's love is setting thousands of Indian people free every day. But how do these new believers in Christ sustain their faith in a culture so completely bound by poverty and Hinduism? Worship in India happens in a building, yet because of persecution, poverty, and the laws of the Hindu caste system, finding common ground to meet is often difficult. But there is an answer...EMI's Village Church Project.
With a goal to reach every village in India with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and erect a church building in each village, Indian believers are now having a place of true worship to call their own. This simple structure gives viability to the call to come to Christ. Those who never listened to the gospel before are giving fresh attention and respect to local pastors. "When we began working with this local ministry, they had developed 53 churches in 25 years of service. Now in only 18 months, that number has grown to over 150 churches! Small fellowships are developing every day in this district because of the momentum caused by the Village Church Project. A movement has begun. Villages are waiting in anticipation as church after church is being built. They are asking, 'When will a Church come to our village?'"
The Village Church Project makes the following contributions to village life:
1. The Village Church is, many times, the only concrete building in a village
2. The Village Church building becomes the center of all types of community activities.
3. The Village Church building is also used for all types of civic activities and becomes a communication center during a natural emergency.
4. The Village Church building, during natural disasters, provides a place of refuge for Christians and non-Christians alike.
5. The Village Church building is an ideal location for and is used as a mid week literacy center, food bank, immunization clinics and other forms of community outreach.
