Wanda and I both came to know Christ at a young age and were brought up in homes where our parents exhibited wonderful models of Christian living. For both of us, it wasn't until our college years and beyond where we began seeking God’s plan in our lives. After graduating from George Fox University and Colorado State University with a Masters in Civil Engineering, God redirected our lives toward Youth Ministry. We spent 7 years in full time Youth Ministry in Iowa and Oregon before God again led our path back into Engineering.
10 years after the return to Engineering, God began stirring in Jon’s heart to be using Civil Engineering as a tool to make a difference in the lives of people struggling with basic human needs. A simple web search brought him to Engineering Ministries International. At this same time, God was speaking to both Wanda and Jon about obedience—not necessarily on the big things, but the little, daily parts of our life that hare hard to give up. After three project trips to Nicaragua and El Salvador, we felt that the next step of obedience was to begin the process of joining staff with EMI.
As we look back, we see God’s fingerprints all over the story of our lives. Our hope is that as we continue forward, we keep our eyes focused on God and His work. A verse that has stood out in our lives through this transition is Matthew 6:33 ”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness...”
