EMI is privileged to partner with the Koutiala Women and Children's Hospital for an expansion and master plan project. Koutiala Hospital is located in eastern Mali on 3.7 hectares and provides healthcare services to women and children throughout the region, with over 3000 deliveries per year and roughly 700 operations per year. The 13-year-old children’s hospital building is currently in a repurposed open layout building that has been outgrown. Also, due to the open layout, mosquitoes (bearing malaria), horseflies, dust, and rain easily enter the building affecting equipment, cleanliness, and the health of our staff and patients. The hospital plans to build a new modern, enclosed, climate-controlled, energy-efficient building including a new operating rooms, central processing, recovery, ICUs, emergency room, laboratory, and radiology.
Project Scope
The EMI project scope will be to design a new children's hospital building, to layout a new guest house, and to perform an overall hospital facilities assessment and growth plan including water, wastewater, incineration, and solar energy. We plan to accomplish this project remotely from our US and Senegal offices instead of sending a project team to the site.
As the only Christian hospital in a predominantly Muslim country, Koutiala Hospital hopes to provide the absolute best care possible in Jesus’ name. They also hope to have a long-term eternal impact by training the next generation of pediatric surgeons, pediatricians, and nurses.
