This position is responsible for managing the financial operations of the USA Office located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and supporting the finance staff in the EMI overseas offices in order for the ministry of the organization to flourish.

  • Status & Class:  Full-time, Exempt staff position
  • Compensation: This opportunity is a centrally-funded position. $4,583 - $5,166 Per Month, DOE
  • Start Date: March 1, 2019

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA and/or nonprofit audit or tax experience preferred
  • 5+ years in accounting with at least 3 years in nonprofit accounting
  • prior management position and international experience are preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of nonprofit accounting desired
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and working knowledge of QuickBooks necessary
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; timely responses to requests
  • Able to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to the board of directors and non-financial staff
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently while handling multiple tasks
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to research a variety of resources to provide reliable answers to questions.
  • Expected to maintain an extremely high degree of accuracy
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of financial records
  • Able to teach and motivate supervisee(s) to improve accounting skills
  • High degree of motivation, adaptability, and flexibility
  • Ability to communicate in non-English language such as Spanish, French, Hindi, Swahili a plus

  • Ensure that all accounting services are professionally and efficiently executed in accordance with GAAP and best practices in nonprofit accounting by creating and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, providing training for such policies and procedures, and providing oversight of their implementation.
  • Supervise and/or implement all general ledger activity, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Bank Reconciliations, Employee Expense Reports, and Credit Card Reconciliations.
  • Lead and implement or make assignments for month-end closing including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Work closely with non-USA Office Directors and partner office finance staff to ensure adequate exchange of financial information and implementation of best practices.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management review and the Board of Directors. Analyze financial information and provide counsel to the Office Director and Finance Committee.
  • Be responsible for or oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly financial reports for design and construction projects and non-USA and partner offices. Work closely with project leaders to close out the projects financially in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Oversee and/or take direct responsibility for the following payroll and employee benefit tasks: 1) Process and manage monthly payroll, including deposits of 403b and HSA contributions; 2) Investigate employer and tax withholding requirements for non-Colorado staff and register with the state as necessary; 3) Provide all staff with monthly support account reports; 4) Work closely with HR staff and Office Directors in onboarding and offboarding staff in the organization.
  • Manage charitable solicitations process by assuring state registrations are filed timely and accurately.
  • Assure compliance with all federal and state requirements for a charitable nonprofit including the unique requirements and opportunities available for a religious organization with licensed ministers.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget and monitor the budget to actual monthly, consulting with and advising budget managers as needed.
  • Provide financial forecasting including cash flow analysis for executive and board decision making when requested.
  • Coordinate all audit activities. Engage and work closely with outside audit firm in preparation of annual audit and Form 990.
  • Manage the donation processing by the Administrator and other assigned staff in order to receive and process all donations on a timely basis and assure that acknowledgements are prepared and sent according to IRS requirements.
  • Assure compliance with state and federal requirements for charitable organizations and employment, researching best practices as needed.
  • Work closely with the Global Office to implement policies and procedures set for the global organization.
  • Some international travel required, 1-2 times per year.
