About:

EMI South Africa is looking for an experienced project leader to join our team in Cape Town.  The qualified person will assist our office by carrying out projects for a variety of ministries across Southern Africa.  Project leaders are the face of EMI to our ministry clients and the volunteers who participate with us. They are not only design professionals, but disciples of Christ whom God has called into EMI's ministry. They share their talents and experience with others, and lead others into doing design work as the disciples of Jesus.

The South Africa office is committed to serving Christian ministries through design services, and completes work for a large variety of ministry types.  Our projects range in complexity from conceptual and master planning level design to full detailed design and construction oversight.

This role will be based in Cape Town, and will require somewhat regular travel for projects mainly within southern Africa.  We operate in English both in the office and on project trips.

This opportunity is a support-based, self-fund-raised position.

Qualifications:

In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have

  • Participated on an EMI Project Trip within last 12 months.

  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Cape Town.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.

  • BS in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction-related field.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Ability to travel internationally 2-3 times per year for trips of up to 15 days each.

  • Working knowledge of personal computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programs as: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Autocad

Responsibilities:

The following are essential responsibilities for this position:

  • Spiritual and professional discipleship through EMI’s programs and opportunities.

  • Recruit project team members and prepare them for trips.

  • Pastor team members while on trips.

  • Encourage and counsel client ministry.

  • Coordinate design so that it is correct, to the appropriate level of detail, and complete on-schedule.

  • Follow EMI's Project Leader checklist and procedures before, during, and after trip.
