Important message about the COVID-19 Coronavirus

In an effort to care for all of our personnel, families, and mission around the world, EMI has been taking a number of steps in response to the progress of COVID-19.

Location-specific Crisis Management Teams are now in place to monitor COVID developments, inform, and care for EMI personnel. All official EMI travel (including project travel) has been cancelled or postponed and no new travel plans are being prepared until further notice. EMI’s worldwide offices are in varying states of closure with personnel working remotely or from home as they are able.

We continue to actively monitor the situation and will respond to new information affecting our worldwide ministry and teams. We view the COVID-19 Coronavirus an opportunity to live out the gospel and our faith in Jesus through the ministry of EMI.

About: 

EMI South Africa is looking for a civil engineer to join our team in Cape Town.  The qualified person will assist our office by providing civil engineering input on projects across Southern Africa. 

The South Africa office is committed to serving Christian ministries through design services, and completes work for a large variety of ministry types.  Our projects range in complexity from conceptual and master planning level design to full detailed design and construction oversight.  

This role will be based in Cape Town, and will require occasional travel for projects mainly within southern Africa.  We operate in English both in the office and on project trips.

Qualifications: 

In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:

  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Cape Town.

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Participated as a volunteer on at least one EMI project.

  • BS in Civil Engineering, or Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering with 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Ability to travel internationally 1-2 times per year for trips of up to 15 days each.

  • Working knowledge of personal computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programs as: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Autocad

Responsibilities: 

The following are essential responsibilities for the Civil Engineer position:

  • Perform civil engineering design, analysis and drafting on projects

  • Perform civil engineering review and consultation

  • Encourage, mentor and direct interns in civil engineering

  • Respond to construction administration questions from our field construction teams related to civil engineering design

  • Help to develop and maintain civil engineering standards for EMI South Africa projects
