Our Story
Growing up in Vancouver, BC, Greg had a passion for architecture, travel, and his faith, and longed to combine these in his life’s work. After practicing architecture for 10 years, Greg discovered EMI in 2001 and was soon on his first EMI project in Belize. It quickly became clear that with EMI, Greg could live out his passion to combine architecture and the Good News. It is a living expression of God’s redemptive work in the world, and in the physical and spiritual lives of all people.
In 2005, following several volunteer projects, Greg, Julie and their three children Caitlin, Cameron and Connor moved to Calgary, Alberta so he could join EMI Canada as a project leader and administrator. Since 2010, Greg has served as EMI Canada’s Executive Director, promoting EMI to design professionals and students all across Canada, developing relationship with Canada-based overseas ministries, and facilitating Canadian staff, volunteers, and interns to serve with EMI all over the world. However, Greg remains active in the role he enjoys most: as a project leader for overseas teams.
After dozens of projects and making friends of volunteers and ministry leaders alike, the ministry of EMI remains fresh and exciting for Greg, particularly inspired by EMI’s “3D” vision of excellence in contextual & sustainable Design, the Discipleship of design professionals wherever EMI serves, and the Diversity of EMI’s growing, multi-national staff family.
Each year, EMI’s people complete over 80 development projects which serve the poor and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To keep these design services affordable for Christian ministries, professionals like Greg on EMI’s staff are responsible for raising their own salaries.
