Zach Blocker

Civil Engineer I - Fellow, EMI Senegal

Joined EMI April 2023

Professional Training & Experience

When Zach was young, he developed a bend towards engineering and problem solving. Both of his grandfathers were engineers and when he was growing up, his dad was always giving him projects to do like working on car engines or building tree houses. In college, he earned his BS in Civil Engineering (2021), and after graduating he participated in an internship with EMI in Uganda (Spring 2023). After his internship he joined EMI's fellowship program (Fall 2023) and spent two years in EMI's US office. In the Fall of 2025 him and his family moved to Senegal to join EMI's office there where he works full-time as a Civil Engineer.

Ministry Experience

God has been building a passion in Zach towards missions his whole life! During his early years, his dad served the Church as a pastor and church planter among international people groups in different areas of Texas. During his elementary years, his family lived overseas in North Africa where his parents lived out their faith in work there. In his teens, his family moved back to the U.S., and he participated in many short-term mission trips over the course of middle school and high school. During college he volunteered for an organization called Furniture Friends, which is a service and relationship ministry to international students and refugees. When he graduated from college, he joined the organization full-time in the director's role. He engaged in this role for 2 years before participating in an EMI internship in Uganda and then joined staff full-time as a Fellow in the U.S. office in August of 2023.
