Zack Wheeler

Civil Engineer / Intern Coordinator, EMI Mexico

Joined EMI May 2025

Professional Training & Experience

Inspired by living in Africa for a year with his family as missionaries at 10 years old, Zack studied civil engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in California with the dream of using engineering with missions one day. He spent one year of university studying abroad in central Mexico where he learned Spanish and developed a passion for serving the people of Latin America. After graduating, he interned with EMI Cambodia in 2021. Zack then returned to his hometown in Southern California and worked for a civil engineering firm doing land development work until 2025, where he worked on large healthcare and university projects, and obtained his PE. Zack has been part of the EMI Mexico office since the start of 2026 and has worked as a civil engineer, project manager, and intern coordinator.

Ministry Experience

Zack has been involved in ministry and church throughout each stage of his life. He has participated in several short-term missions trips to Latin America, Africa, and Asia from childhood to college. Before joining EMI in 2026, Zack was involved in ministries serving middle schoolers, international students, and refugees with their US resettlement.

Since moving to Mexico to join EMI, he's been part of a local church and is involved in the men's group. On the weekends, Zack serves with a local ministry teaching kids to surf and rock climb.

Family

Zack has no wife and is living life! Zack rents a room from a local Mexican lady and her Chihuahua, and spends most weekends with a friend and his family where they spends time surfing, cooking and consuming tortillas.
