EMI UK is looking for new trustees to help us grow our impact and serve more communities around the world. As a trustee, you will join a committed and energetic group who:

  • Help set the charity’s strategy and priorities
  • Ensure the charity is operating legally and ethically, in line with Charity Commission guidance
  • Oversee the charity’s finances and resources
  • Support and appropriately challenge those running the charity day-to-day
  • Act in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries
  • Attend Trustee meetings and contribute to decision-making
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity

Trustees share responsibility and make decisions collectively as a Board

Qualifications

There are no specific qualifications required to be a trustee. We are looking for people who have:

  • Commitment to our values and vision, including having an active Christian faith
  • Willingness to give time, thought and energy to the role
  • Ability to work collaboratively and use good judgement
  • Integrity and a willingness to act in the charity’s best interests.

We welcome Trustees from all backgrounds, however we are especially keen to hear from people with experience or skills in:

  • Marketing and communications (including digital, social media, or PR)
  • Fundraising (grants, individual giving, partnerships, or campaigns)
  • Strategy and planning
  • Branding, audience engagement, or impact storytelling

You do not need previous trustee experience — training and support will be provided. 

Responsibilities

Legal responsibilities of trustees are to:

  • Act in line with the charity’s governing document
  • Comply with UK charity law and Charity Commission guidance
  • Declare and manage conflicts of interest
  • Be eligible to act as a trustee under UK law

Within the board, some trustees have responsibility for specific areas such as supporting policy development, finances or safeguarding.
