Meet our three architecture interns who joined us between January and July this year!

Hey everyone, I am an architect from the City of Joy - you guessed it, Calcutta!

My passion has been to use my skills as a designer to make a difference in the lives of people. This seeking led me to use my talents as an Architect Intern at EMI-India during Term 1 of 2021 from January-April. These four months gave me time to grow deeper in love through the work I am appointed to do. Many fears and prejudices fell away, and I was able to abide and trust more. I am so grateful for the EMI India team. They are an amazing group of fun-loving, cheerful people who generously share their love and kindness.

Even though the pandemic situation kept our spritely energy in check every time we made plans to travel, the memories to cherish the most are the ones snug as bug sprawled in a colleague's living room for Mandallorian Mondays and WandaVision Wednesdays. I will cherish all the mentorship afternoons, tea and dinner plans at the fellow's apartment, cooking and awakening the artist inside of us at the transit flat, a.k.a Girl's Flat Dwellers (the roaches were never a favourite), and last but not least, little Grogu who silently put up with all my hugs and admiration.

Experiencing Delhi without EMI folks would never have been quite as memorable. Thank you all!

I was born in Kerala and did my schooling in Muscat and my bachelor’s degree in architecture from the College of Architecture, Trivandrum. Having seen my parents actively involved in community work all my life and my sister work at hospitals instilled in me a desire to serve with my skills. An internship with EMI seemed like an amazing opportunity to grow as I could work while understanding my unique calling.

My favourite memories here have been exploring Delhi and its street food, cooking and crafts with the girls, fun times on the terrace, movie Mondays, and walks in the park. Although we went into lockdown during the last month of T1, I am grateful for the EMI family and the community I've formed here who have been so encouraging and supportive, for Elliana (the sweet little kitty we got during lockdown), and for the providence I experience every day. I am excited to continue T2 as well with EMI!

P.S: My home is always welcome if anyone ever decides to visit Kerala!

I was born and brought up in Bangalore, south of India. I completed my bachelors in architecture from BMS School of Architecture, also located in Bangalore. Having never lived away from home, coming out to Delhi was a big decision to make even for a few months. Joining EMI’s internship program has been something that I have been looking forward to, and now I understand why I have been called out here. It has been an experience, learning to trust though life has its many ups and downs. My favourite time here includes all our fellowship meets and gatherings as an extended office family; our fun-filled touristy weekends; our water fights on the terrace; our early morning Yulu rides/forest walks and a good amount of time spent at the Begampur Park, with its open green lawns and its many many stray dogs!  Covid-19 hit its second wave during the end of our T1 and left us with incomplete goodbyes, but also left us with a good amount of in-house memories to always look back on. I cannot explain how loved and supported I felt even during this time of the pandemic. I am thankful for caring cooks for roommates, encouraging staff, fellows and their families, and EMI for giving us this opportunity!
