Your first sensations of Sénégal will be of vibrant colors and welcoming faces.  This is "Taranga", which is Wolof for hospitality.  After a good night sleep, you will awaken to the sounds of life here in Sénégal.  After eating le petit déjeuner (breakfast), you will take a short walk to the office, where you will meet the Sénégal office staff and prepare for orientation.  Over the next week to ten days you will be exposed to your new home with walks through the neighborhood, eating local cuisine, using public transportation, and exploring the beach and market areas.

We have not finalized our project trip for this term, yet, but it could be similar to a hospital or school master plan, planning a church site or possibly working on a water or waste water system. With the project, the Sénégal office staff will challenge you to think outside the box as we work for our client to provide the tools they need to further their ministry.  The challenge will be to provide culturally appropriate designs with local materials and construction techniques.  You will have the latest design software to aid you in your task along with seasoned design professionals.  But, we are not just about professional growth, our desire is that your spiritual walk grows also.  We will provide you a mentor to grow your walk of faith and help guide you during your time here along with bible studies.

Here in Sénégal, it is about exploring the country and seeing God's great creation here in sub-Saharan Africa.  There are many activities and sights to fill your time on the weekends, so plan early!  You can visit Gorée Island and hear about its significance, or visit Lac Retbah (the Pink Lake) and float on the pink salt water, for the adventurer there is a zip line/ ropes course which traverses through a baobab forest and many more places and things to do and see.  If you want a lazy weekend, you can go just up the road and go surfing or body boarding at Somone beach or just take a short walk to the local beach.

À bientôt
