Interns in the Uganda office enjoy a rich, cross-cultural, communal living experience. Each morning you will walk about 10 minutes down a narrow dirt road from the intern house to the EMI office. You will most likely be sharing your living space with like-minded interns who are just beginning their careers.

We offer our ministry partners full construction management services, as well as design services. So working in the Uganda office means that you will have the opportunity to visit active construction projects and offer design support to our construction managers.

While specific projects for this term have not been confirmed yet, our most common projects involve the planning, design, and construction of primary schools, secondary schools, universities, hospitals, clinics and community centers. Most of the projects that we work on are within Uganda, but we are also involved with ongoing projects in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

You will work with an inter-disciplinary team made up of experienced architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, surveyors and construction managers and will have the valuable opportunity to learn disciplines other than your own.

Uganda is a relatively easy country to travel within and you will have the opportunity to explore. Previous interns have gone hiking, on safari, climbed volcanos, gone camping, visited co-workers at their homes, taken overnight buses to Kenya and become involved in the local community, as well as enjoying restaurants, concerts and shopping in downtown Kampala.
