Beer-Sheba School Project, Senegal
Project Details
In rural Senegal, children sometimes must walk long distances to get to a government school. This can be very difficult for parents, children, and community. Samaritan’s Purse Canada partnered with the Senegalese Beersheba Project to build a certified school on their current campus and provide better education for children in the rural community.
Beersheba was operating out of a lean-to shelter which made it impossible to teach year-round. EMI was approached to design a modular school campus from elementary through secondary school as a part of a 15-year growth plan. The design starts small with a single building serving 60-90 students and will grow over the years.
As it is a partnership with Beersheba’s agricultural project, each student will be taught holistic creation care elements and learn to tend land and animals as part of their education. They hope to shape the future farmers and entrepreneurs of the Sahel. The school will introduce new renewable building techniques and be a place of learning for staff, students, technicians, and the community.
