The R&D department in Uganda researched and tested gas-fired (propane) institutional-sized cook stoves to enable The Amazima Secondary School (TASS) to transition their kitchen building from wood fuel to gas. Various geometric configurations, nozzle sizes, and number of burners were tested for the prototype stove unit. A loose vermiculite-filled steel skirt around the sauce pan was a key factor for increasing stove efficiency. After a design was settled on, the R&D team worked with the EMI Uganda fabrication workshop to build the industrial-sized gas stoves required to retrofit the kitchen building.
