Home Repairs in Koyuk, United States
Project Details
In small rural Alaskan communities sourcing parts, tools, and skilled labor present significant barriers to homeowners maintaining their homes. Additionally, small plumbing issues can quickly become catastrophic – frozen water and sewer lines may limit a family’s access to water/sewer services for an entire season. Engineering Ministries International (EMI) partnered with the City of Koyuk and RurAL CAP to assess water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs at the household level. As a result, repairs are being completed in 28 homes to be repaired in Koyuk in 2026. Trainings for homeowners to equip them with the tools and knowledge to perform basic home maintenance tasks further address the challenges faced. Through this work, families can live in homes with reliable access to water and sewer services – strengthening both individual well-being and the long-term housing stock of rural Alaskan communities.
