EMI has the unique opportunity to work on a small heliport located in a riverbed in the Himalayan Region of Northern India. The heliport will allow operation of an air ambulance to remote regions that otherwise have no emergency access—and during many parts of the year, no access at all. The heliport will be operated in partnership with a local mission hospital that serves the remote Himalayan Region.
This project trip will focus on providing a feasibility and impact study for the proposed heliport site. Since the proposed site is partially in an existing riverbed, extreme caution and careful planning will be required. The impact of the river on the proposed heliport will need to be determined as well as the environmental impact of the construction on the river and consequent flood risk.
Various alternatives for the design of the proposed heliport, its footprint in the river, and necessary protective measures will need to be considered based on engineering and architectural code requirements, civil aviation requirements, environmental impact, and government regulations.
This project presents a unique opportunity to use your professional skills in providing basic needs to virtually unreached peoples in the region. Would you like to lend a hand in reaching out to these people? Please consider the volunteer opportunities below. We look forward to hearing from you as we continue to design a world of hope in India!
