EMI is excited to work with Hebron Educational and Charitable Trust (HECT) on this new high school and Bible college campus, which is located near the southern most corner of the country. When complete, this new campus will provide education to about 1000 students. The campus will include educational spaces for students and residential spaces for staff and college students.
Hebron Educational and Charitable Trust is a non-profit humanitarian organization which is serving the poor and needy children, women, and elderly in Tamilnadu, India. Their vision includes providing quality education to over 1700 children from the surrounding villages. Through their Hebron Matriculation Higher Secondary School, and a team of dedicated staff, they are currently providing education to 1100 children. It’s a great privilege for EMI to partner with the school to help them expand their vision, facility and plan for the future.
The current campus was started in 2001, and has developed over the years adding one grade per year. The current school is Nursery-Grade 5, but there is a desire to expand further. The school is situated in Kudankulam, just outside a nuclear power plant boundary. Due to the proximity, the power plant has to issue a NOC for any construction, and this has been a difficult process. For this reason, the school trustees have bought approx. 17 acres of land, 4kms away from the power plant, to expand the school into a partially residential campus. They also desire to start a residential college that will offer Biblical courses in the coming years.
EMI has been requested to assist them in the first phase of development – the concept design of phase 1 of the school and the Bible college building. A team of 7-8 people will travel to Kudankulam, Tamilnadu and will spend a week at the campus. We will hear the story of the ministry from the leaders, listen to their needs and future plans, and analyse the site and existing facilities. Our aim is to provide them with a masterplan showing future development of the campus, a concept level design of phase 1 of the school and college building, which will also include site grading, water collection and disposal plans, and structural recommendations.
We are excited to work with Hebron, and to see first-hand how their Christ-focused work is empowering students to be lights in their community. Please prayerfully consider the volunteer options below. If you would like to use your skills on this project, let us know.
