EMI is honoured to be able to continue our partnership with Umri Christian Hospital for a masterplan and new building designs for their existing 100 bed hospital. For more than 50 years of humble sacrifice, a team of medical doctors and nurses have cared for the bodies and souls of people in this rural community in Central India. Starting in 2017, EMI has been supporting Umri with design services for various projects, including staff housing, a wastewater system, electrical upgrades, new buildings for their nursing college and a masterplan for a new hospital in a nearby town.
Project Scope
This project will focus on developing a phased masterplan for the hospital which will increase both inpatient and outpatient capacity. This will include an expanded OPD for 400 patients per day, a new emergency department, a new ward for an additional 50 beds, along with expanded administration space.
***Due to current travel restrictions, this project will not include a traditional EMI trip. However, we are leveraging the experience and skills of our design professionals around the world and best practices for remote work to bring the Umri Christian Hospital team the best ideas and concepts EMI has to offer.
We plan to replicate much of the multi-disciplinary collaboration and rapid concept development found on a traditional EMI project trip with 2 or 3 “design sprints” that will involve a commitment several hours per day for 3-5 consecutive days from the volunteers. Together with our staff in the EMI India office, we continue to design a world of hope, one project at a time.***
