Important message about the COVID-19 Coronavirus

In an effort to care for all of our personnel, families, and mission around the world, EMI has been taking a number of steps in response to the progress of COVID-19.

Location-specific Crisis Management Teams remain in place to monitor COVID developments, inform, and care for EMI personnel. Decisions about official EMI travel (including project travel) domestically and internationally are being made on a case-by-case basis by Office Directors in locations concerned. EMI’s worldwide offices remain in varying states of closure with personnel working remotely or from home.

We continue to actively monitor the situation and will respond to new information affecting our worldwide ministry and teams. We view the COVID-19 Coronavirus as an opportunity to live out the gospel and our faith in Jesus through the ministry of EMI.

Project Scope

EMI is excited to support and partner with Dr. Raksmey Heang as she leads a new medical center supported by the Pharus Foundation on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Project Scope

Healthcare in Cambodia is still an important challenge and development priority. In the provinces, rural areas and outskirts of Phnom Penh access to quality primary healthcare is still very low, especially for the poor. Medical workers are often motivated by money instead of helping. On the outskirts of the city and around Phnom Penh there are many factories where mainly women are working on very low salaries. There is a high need for quality primary care and women’s health.

Project Objectives
- Improving access to primary healthcare for poor people.
- Providing high quality primary healthcare and providing a positive patient experience.
- Share the compassion and love of Christ.

The Diny Sunshine Medical Center will lean on Dr. Raksmey's training in family medicine and women's health to provide these important healthcare services to the community. EMI will be partnered with Dr. Raksmey throughout the process, from initial planning and concept design through construction management.

This first phase focussed on the planning and conceptual design to develop the ministry's property into a functional and welcoming medical center. EMI provided architectural programming and design services, along with initial elements of civil, structural, geotechnical and MEP design.

Now, we are moving into the detailed design portion of the project!

Due to current travel restrictions, this project will not include a traditional EMI trip. If you are interested to volunteer your time and expertise, please click on the links below! Together with our local staff in the Cambodia office, we continue to design hope, one project at a time.
