Important message about the COVID-19 Coronavirus

In an effort to care for all of our personnel, families, and mission around the world, EMI has been taking a number of steps in response to the progress of COVID-19.

Location-specific Crisis Management Teams remain in place to monitor COVID developments, inform, and care for EMI personnel. Decisions about official EMI travel (including project travel) domestically and internationally are being made on a case-by-case basis by Office Directors in locations concerned. EMI’s worldwide offices remain in varying states of closure with personnel working remotely or from home.

We continue to actively monitor the situation and will respond to new information affecting our worldwide ministry and teams. We view the COVID-19 Coronavirus as an opportunity to live out the gospel and our faith in Jesus through the ministry of EMI.

EMI is excited to again partner with Haiti ARISE in their vision to strengthen the Haitian people spiritually while expanding their skill base practically to influence positive change around them. Haiti ARISE has already established many programs; including a children's home, technical school, a primary school, a local church congregation and a medical clinic. Now, they are expanding these programs and require both new facility design and updated master plans for their two campuses in the area of Grand Goâve, Haiti.

Project Scope

Marc and Lisa Honorat founded Haiti ARISE Ministries from a vision of planting a Bible College to help train godly leaders. This vision grew to encompass everything that Haiti ARISE is now endeavoring to accomplish to help the Haitian people.

Marc is a native Haitian and has a desire to see change in his nation because he knows the peoples' plight so well as he experienced it himself - he was born into an impoverished family of 15 children, his parents gave him up with some of their other children, with the hope that they would receive better care. At the age of five he was given to a lady to be her restavek, a term for a Haitian slave child, in exchange for food and shelter. At age twelve he was rescued by his brother and placed in a children’s home, where he was allowed to attend school for the first time.

Thanks to the sponsorship of a very generous and loving Canadian woman, he was able to graduate high school at age twenty-five. He then attended Caribbean Christ for the Nations Bible College in Montego Bay, Jamaica, for two years, and finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology at Evangel Bible College in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His heart has always been to go back to guide and encourage the people of Haiti toward change.

This will be EMI’s fourth project for Haiti ARISE. EMI visited twice in 2011 – once to design the Arise Children's Village and once to design a technical school – and once in 2014 – to revisit the master plan, and to design a church and primary school. Haiti ARISE has now finished construction on roughly 1/3 of the Children's Village, the technical school and the primary school.

On this trip, EMI will investigate and evaluate past construction, update the master plan of both campuses, provide detailed design for current needs, and provide required remediation measures for any current infrastructure challenges. New design will include a birthing center to complement their medical clinic and aid in reducing the mortality rates of both infants and mothers. EMI will also produce a thorough as-built survey of both campuses.

EMI continues to partner with Haiti ARISE for many reasons, but chiefly because we have seen the incredible, tangible impact they are having on their community in the name of Jesus. Please consider joining us as we continue to design a world of hope alongside Haiti ARISE for the people of Grand Goave.
