EMI will be blessed to work with Emmanuel Ministries Calcutta (EMC) on the conceptual design of the new Anandoloy: Integrated Child Development Centre. EMC, founded in 1985 and based out of the crowded city of Kolkata, India, has a wide range of projects and ministries focused on fighting poverty, addiction, exploitation and social injustice. It works to provide hope, healing, rehabilitation, and healthy reintegration into society. EMC targets the disadvantaged, aiming for holistic restoration with dignity.
Anandoloy, meaning "abode of joy", will be a new Integrated Child Development Centre that will provide a safe place for child addicts and at-risk youth, a staggeringly large problem in both Kolkata and all over India. The centre will facilitate detoxification and rehabilitation for up to 300 girls and boys. It will include many day activities aimed at providing healing, freedom, and life skills and a place for children to safely stay at night. It will further allow EMC to fight for vulnerable children and bring them out of the darkness of the shadows. For a story of one boy and the hope he found through the current Anandoloy Home see: http://emcalcutta.org/stories/raja.html.
This project trip will focus on providing master planning of the full build-out for the new site of the Anandoloy Centre. Conceptual architectural building design for the first phase of the project will also be completed, including a building for housing 50 children (30 boys, 20 girls). To this end, engineering work will include a simple survey, site grading, drainage, water, wastewater, and basic structural recommendations.
