EMI Uganda is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join our team. The Engineering Manager carries out the ministry of EMI Uganda through leading and managing the Engineering Department. This role is both a professional and spiritual calling—combining technical excellence with a heart for discipleship, mentorship, and service.

Project work at EMI provides a unique opportunity to influence Christian leadership and vision through the design professions. As an Engineering Manager, you will help shape appropriate and sustainable design solutions while leading others in the process as disciples of Jesus. You’ll work across cultures, collaborating with local and international professionals, encouraging and mentoring young engineers, and investing in EMI’s interns and fellows as the future of EMI’s ministry.

Qualifications

In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:

  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Kampala, Uganda.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering.
  • 8–10+ years of practical engineering experience, including project management.
  • Professional licensure or registration preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability.
  • Proficiency in civil/structural design.
  • Practical knowledge of building design, construction methods, and standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Responsibilities

The following are essential responsibilities for the Engineering Manager position:

  • Lead and develop EMI Uganda’s Engineering Department, ensuring design services uphold EMI’s mission, values, and professional standards.
  • Supervise and mentor engineers, interns, and fellows, fostering professional excellence and spiritual growth.
  • Guide engineering approaches and solutions, ensuring that design work meets agreed scope, quality, and schedule.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to maintain EMI Uganda’s engineering standards and design tools for effective, sustainable solutions.
  • Engage in spiritual leadership, modelling discipleship and supporting the development of others in faith and practice.
  • Lead or support EMI project trips, coordinating teams and serving partner ministries in the field.
