EMI Uganda is currently seeking a Staff Architect to join our team. Staff Architects are both design professionals and disciples of Christ who God has called into EMI’s ministry. They share their talents and experience with others and lead others into doing design work as disciples of Jesus.
Working alongside Christian ministries and ministry leaders, EMI Staff Architects have a unique opportunity to influence Christian leadership and vision through the design professions. They ask questions, listen well, and pursue appropriate, sustainable design that serves people and honours God. They are comfortable working across cultures and seek to encourage and empower others to do the same. They invest in EMI’s interns and staff as the future of EMI and work closely with local and international professionals in a spirit of collaboration and service.

In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:
- B.Arch. or M.Arch. degree in Architecture.
- Registered Architect status preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience across all project phases.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp, with working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong leadership and coordination skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop young architects and interns.
- Excellent communication skills and cultural adaptability.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Kampala, Uganda, and travel for project trips 1–2 times per year.
The following are essential responsibilities for the Staff Architect position:
- Lead and develop architectural design from concept through detailed design and documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to achieve coordinated, contextually appropriate designs.
- Mentor and supervise interns, fellows, and young staff architects, modelling professional and faith-inspired excellence.
- Engage in discipleship and spiritual development, including devotions, prayer, and mentoring within EMI’s community.
- Coordinate client communication and design decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to EMI Uganda’s architectural standards, ensuring buildable, sustainable, and high-quality solutions.
- Support construction administration, including site visits, RFIs, and collaboration with the Construction Management team.
