For more than twenty years, eMi Uganda has grown, learned, and adapted while remaining committed to serving ministry partners through excellence in engineering and design. We provide comprehensive design services, from concept development and detailed design through to construction administration, supporting organizations engaged in gospel proclamation and poverty alleviation in the name of Jesus.
A vital part of this mission is our Workshop Department, which plays a key role in delivering high-quality steel and wood products that complement our design and construction services. The workshop team brings together skilled local and international staff who contribute expertise in design, woodworking, metal fabrication, and steel works. Their work is essential in helping our ministry partners receive complete, practical, and sustainable solutions. Team members are based at our Kajjansi office and, as needed, on project and construction sites throughout Uganda.
We are currently seeking a Workshop Manager to lead and strengthen our workshop operations. This is an exciting opportunity to use your leadership, technical expertise, and faith to make a lasting impact through the various meaningful ministry projects.

In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study
- Professional licensure or registration preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing industry, including project and business management experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project and working understanding of AutoCAD
- Practical knowledge of building design and construction, and workshop operations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build and manage cohesive and effective teams
- Spiritual and professional discipleship through EMI’s programmes and opportunities.
- To manage the development of workshop services provided by EMI Uganda such that the organization’s core values and standards are intrinsically maintained within our service and our commitments are fulfilled.
- Hire, train and supervise woodshop and metal shop managers, technicians and technical assistants in the fabrication of wood products (structural timber, doors, windows, cabinetry and furniture, etc.) and metal products (steel trusses, structural members and connections, doors and windows, metal fascia and railings, etc.) in support of EMI Uganda’s construction projects
- Manage workshop employees/personnel orientation, workshop policy development and employee/personnel reviews (supported by HR).
- Supervise the work of workshop staff, directly supervising Workshop Superintendent, Administrator and Project Manager (and workshop trainees) and ensure sufficient support and spiritual and professional development for each one.
- Develop and manage project estimates and agreements, outlining the responsibilities for the workshop and its staff.
- Establish and maintain a master production schedule in collaboration with EMI Uganda Construction Management
- Estimate, procure and manage the treatment and storage of materials.
- Manage the transportation of products to the building sites and manage/oversee on-site installations as needed/coordinated with EMI construction managers.
- Manage/oversee the design and drafting of fabrication drawings, in coordination with EMI Uganda’s engineers/architects, as well as providing cost estimates to EMI construction teams.
- Update the Workshop Business plan to ensure the workshop can be semi-autonomous from the EMI UG office.
