Earlier this year, we shared how a partnership at Minga Mission Hospital grew into something much larger, helping shape conversations around maternal and child healthcare across Zambia’s Eastern Province.
In June, we continued that story with a live conversation exploring the work, the partnerships behind it, and what has been learned along the way.
Behind the plans are people, partnerships and a shared vision for healthcare in Zambia.
EMI South Africa Office Director Gerhard van der Merwe and Public Health Specialist Mpanji Sinkala sat down to reflect on the journey so far, the lessons learned along the way, and what comes next.
As someone who has been deeply involved in the work from its early stages, Mpanji brought a unique perspective on the realities facing healthcare facilities across the province, the relationships that have helped move the work forward, and the opportunities that continue to emerge through collaboration.

Together, Gerhard and Mpanji reflected on what they have seen while walking hospital corridors, meeting healthcare leaders, listening to communities, and helping bridge the gap between vision and implementation.
