No matter where the Lord has placed you, you can make a difference every day. EMI's Faith + Work Connect will help provide you with both the inspiration and the critical skills that design professionals need to make an impact in the marketplace and around the world.

Join us in our hometown of Colorado Springs on November 11th - 12th for Faith + Work Connect: An EMI Network Gathering. While the core Faith+Work Connect event begins on Friday evening with our 40th Anniversary Celebration Banquet, come early to connect with others in the EMI Network!  Registration for either/both sessions will include a boxed lunch.

Continuing Education Credits are available for the technical content as indicated below. EMI is an approved provider with the AIA.  Engineers and architects should verify the requirements of their state of licensure).

Full Day Session (8:30-3:30):

California Safety Assessment Program - As part of EMI’s work in Disaster Response, we are often asked to evaluate damaged structures, identifying those that are safe for occupancy to which people can return, while marking those that are unsafe or have restricted use.  The course trains civil/structural engineers, architects, and building inspectors to do field evaluations of buildings for safety. Completion of the course allows qualified professionals to receive certification by the State of California as a safety evaluator and qualifies for 6 continuing education units.

CLOSED: Leadership in the Workplace - Technical competency doesn't always translate to the skills needed to lead design teams, departments, or organizations. EMI has spent the past several years developing a leadership training program aimed at helping our staff learn the skills needed to lead teams well. Successful leadership requries the practial "hard skills" that typically come to mind, as well as the "softer" skills of supporting and development our teams, while both must be undergirded by integrity and a healthy spiritual life, which will sustain us for the long-haul.  This highly practical program will guide you toward behaviors that you implement as soon as you get back to the office.

*Sorry, the leadership training session is full has been closed for registration

Morning Sessions (8:30-12:30):

Electrical System Test and Measurement Hands-On LabSite evaluation and troubleshooting are some of the most critical contributions electrical design professionals make to EMI projects. Engineers use various tools to help design new power systems and identify existing electrical problems at ministries. This workshop course will equip you to perform these functions using electrical test and measurement equipment, even if you have not been on a project trip before.  We will include hands-on training with Fluke® Clamp Meters, Ground Testers, and Power Loggers that are currently in use with EMI teams worldwide. This training qualifies for 4 continuing education units.

Cheyenne Canyon HikeExplore the beauty of the Front Range! We will be organizing a hike near Colorado Springs to spend time in God’s amazing creation of the Rocky Mountains.  Exact location will be confirmed closer in but we expect a 5-7 mile, moderately intense hike.  This will be a fun time of fellowship together so bring your hiking boots and connect with others in the EMI Network!

Afternoon Sessions (1:30-3:30):

Architectural Gathering – Join your fellow architects for an informal gathering and discussion. Whether you are an EMI volunteer, staff, fellow, intern, or just curious about eMi, let's get together and get to know each other. It will be a great time to ask questions and share stories.  Come hear about what's happening in EMI's architecture group, from staff needs to project trips, and how you can be involved.  EMI representatives will include staff architects, fellows, interns and experienced volunteers.

Electrical Engineers GatheringJoin us for an informal gathering and discussion on electrical engineering within EMI.  Connect with engineers, ask questions, and discuss some improvements that are being made to the EMI Electrical Design Guide. (This is a handbook that outlines EMI standards and acts as a reference for electrical design work in majority world contexts.)  Come if you have suggestions for improvements, inspirational stories from the field, or want to explore what it means to go on a project trip as a volunteer.

WASH Gathering – Join us for an informal gathering and discussion on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) at EMI.  Connect with engineers, ask questions, and learn more about how you can get involved.

Garden of the Gods Tour – Explore one of Colorado Springs’ most notable landmarks. With 300’ towering sandstone rock formations (see banner photo above) and a well done visitor center with information, there is a lot to see and enjoy!  Walking paths are paved and accessible for easy mobility. This will be a great time to connect with others in the EMI Network.

Is this the same as the Annual Network Conference?

Faith + Work Connect is taking the place of the conference this year, but some of the content will be parallel to that of years past. We will be offering only a few technical training sessions which will take place on Friday. The bulk of the content will be focused on combining faith and work in the world. With inspiring speakers, this will be a place to connect with like-minded individuals seeking to do God's work in the marketplace and beyond. Additionally, we have shortened the length of time for this event in order to make it best for your needs.

Will this event be livestreamed?

The entire event is designed for personal interaction, fellowship, and networking. EMI may record small segments for distribution later, but this will not be a fully livestreamed event, so you will miss out!  Come for the full experience and connect with other staff and volunteers from EMI.

Can I receive Continuing Education Credits?

CEUs are available for the technical content only, which will primarily occur during trainings on Friday. EMI is an approved provider with the AIA. Engineers and architects should verify the requirements of their state licensure.

Is there a hotel identified for the event?

You are free to find your own lodging accomodations as we will not be partnering with any specific hotel for the event. Colorado Springs offers a large variety of lodging options in terms of price and proximity.

What can I expect for COVID social distancing restrictions?

We plan to meet in-person and will be following state guidelines at the time of the conference.

What is the dress code?

Most attendees dress business casual.

Are the trainings scheduled for Veteran's Day?

We acknowledge that this event is during Veteran's Day weekend which may make it a challenge for some to participate, or even prevent others from attending at all. If you are a veteran, our hope is that you can still join in the events as much as possible. You are also invited to participate in the activities that the Colorado Springs community offers to its wide audience of veterans. We recognize and give honor to all of the veterans within our community of EMI and we thank you for your service.

My question wasn't answered here, who do I ask?
