Interns in the EMI Uganda office enjoy a rich, cross-cultural, communal living experience. Each morning you will walk about 10 minutes down a narrow dirt road from the intern house to the EMI office. You will most likely be sharing your living space with like-minded interns who are just beginning their careers.
We offer our ministry partners full construction management services as well as design services. So working in the Uganda office means that you will have the opportunity to visit active construction projects, and offer design support to our construction managers.
Potential projects for the term include the design of a ward building for a hospital in Burundi, an airfield, a primary school, a secondary school, ongoing support for the construction of a university in eastern Congo, and master planning for a sports outreach ministry.
You will work on an inter-disciplinary team made up of experienced architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, surveyors, and construction managers and will have the valuable opportunity to learn disciplines other than your own.
Uganda is a relatively easy country to travel within and you will have the opportunity to explore. Previous interns have gone hiking, on safari, climbed volcanos, gone camping, visited co-workers at their homes, taken overnight busses to Kenya, become involved in the local community, enjoyed restaurants, concerts and shopping downtown Kampala.
