EMI Mexico is seeking an Electrical Engineer to help design safe, reliable, and sustainable facilities for the communities and ministries we serve. 

You will join a multidisciplinary and multicultural team of architects, engineers, construction managers, and ministry partners to:

  • Develop electrical designs for ministry and community-based facilities
  • Conduct site assessments and evaluate existing electrical systems
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate electrical systems with architectural and other engineering disciplines
  • Support projects from early planning and conceptual design through construction
  • Collaborate with local professionals, ministry partners, volunteers, and international project teams
  • Help develop practical solutions that respond to local conditions, available resources, and long-term operational needs
  • Participate in the spiritual life of the office and help ensure our work remains rooted in EMI’s Christian mission

We are looking for someone who combines technical competence with humility, adaptability, and a desire to serve. This position is ideal for an Engineer who is willing to help the Mexico team develop a long term electrical engineering support program, find ways to pertinently help ministries in the latinamerica context understand and improve the way they consume energy.

Qualifications

In addition to EMI’s standard staff requirements, candidates for this position must have:

  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience
  • Previous participation as a volunteer on at least one EMI project trip (visit the “Project Trip Opportunities” section of our website to apply)
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork experience
  • Ability to travel internationally one to two times per year for trips lasting up to 15 days
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar electrical design and drafting software
Responsibilities

The essential responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer include:

  • Perform electrical engineering design, analysis, calculations, and drafting for EMI Mexico projects
  • Prepare and coordinate electrical drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
  • Review electrical designs and provide technical consultation to project teams and ministry partners
  • Collaborate with and mentor architects, engineers, interns, and volunteer professionals
  • Respond to electrical design questions from field construction teams during construction
  • Help develop and maintain electrical engineering standards and best practices for EMI Mexico projects
