After graduating from college, David spent about ten years working as a civil engineer with Atwell in Atlanta, Georgia, and then with Davis & Floyd in Charleston, South Carolina. He worked on site layout, stormwater hydrology design, erosion control measures, utility layout, grading and earthwork, and permitting for commercial, residential, and industrial clients. He also served as a project manager, mentored new hires, and developed standard practices and templates for engineering software.
Ministry Experience
While attending Clemson, David was a founding member of Clemson Engineers for Developing Countries (CEDC), a student-led group that serves developing countries through sustainable designs. He traveled to Haiti several times and was part of a team that designed and analyzed water filtration and distribution systems. In 2010, David volunteered as an intern with EMI Costa Rica and worked on the design of a hospital in Guatemala. In 2016, he served as a volunteer on an EMI trip in Mexico.
In South Carolina, David was very involved in his home church where he led small groups, led Dave Ramsey Financial Peace classes, and participated in a year-long mentorship program. Intentional discussions around goals, legacy, and calling with this mentoring group is ultimately what led David to join EMI full-time in 2021.
David and his family spent a year in Costa Rica learning Spanish before moving to Managua to join EMI's Nicaragua office. In 2024, they moved to Colorado and joined EMI USA.
Family
David and Diane were married in 2010, shortly after Diane returned from spending a year as a medical missionary in Haiti and after David completed his EMI internship in Costa Rica. For several years, Diane worked as a Physician Assistant in the ER and at a holistic medical center. She has since taken a promotion to full-time mom and is doing a great job raising their two daughters, Emma and Hannah.
