EMI South Africa is looking for an experienced construction project manager to join our team in Cape Town. The qualified person will assist our office by providing construction contract and project management on projects across Southern Africa.
The South Africa office is committed to serving Christian ministries through design services, and completes work for a large variety of ministry types. Our projects range in complexity from conceptual and master planning level design to full detailed design and construction oversight.
This role will be based in Cape Town, and will require occasional travel for projects mainly within Southern Africa. We operate in English both in the office and on project trips.
In addition to the typical EMI Staff prerequisites, candidates for this position must have:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or Construction/Project Management.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Cape Town.
- 5+ years of relevant construction project management experience.
- Ability to travel internationally to projects on a regular basis.
- Working knowledge of personal computers with demonstrated experience in the use of such programmes as: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Procore
The following are essential responsibilities for this position:
- This is a project management role involving contract management and administration
- Spiritual and professional discipleship through EMI’s programmes and opportunities.
- Encourage, mentor and direct interns
- Preparing tenders for clients and commercial bids
- Discussing, drafting, reviewing and negotiating the terms of business contracts
- Agreeing budgets and timescales with the clients
- Managing construction schedules and budgets
- Dealing with any unexpected costs
- Attending site meetings to monitor progress
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients, site and project managers
- Working with third parties to ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities
- Making sure construction projects meet agreed technical standards
- Liaising with technical and financial staff, sub-contractors, legal teams and the client’s own representatives
- Overseeing project invoicing
