IJM Child-Friendly Interview Block, Uganda
Project Details
International Justice Mission (IJM) in Uganda collaborates with the Uganda police throughout the criminal justice process to assist survivors of violence. They sought out EMI to help them create a mobile, child-friendly interview space for recording children's testimonies.
This space needed to be adaptable to various locations where IJM operates as well as useable for training those needing to do sensitive interviews with vulnerable people.
In response, EMI created a prototype interview block fabricated at the EMI Workshop, then delivered and installed it on their inaugural site. The R&D department implemented interventions derived from past research to ensure the container space could withstand heat and minimize sound ingress, preserving recording quality.
Collaborating with the Quantity Surveying department, the team devised a cost matrix for IJM, that would help them pick-and-choose components for any future containers at various price points.
