Stormwater design is an important component of EMI’s work around the world. However, contemporary rainfall data is often difficult or impossible to find at the locations of EMI’s projects. This severely hinders the ability of EMI designers to correctly size stormwater infrastructure and to accurately size rainwater harvesting facilities.
To address this, EMI R&D developed a low-cost wireless datalogging rain gauge. A basic logging system was developed and calibrated at EMI Uganda. Further development on prototype hardware and firmware took place at EMI Cambodia, as well as initial field trials. The rain gauge passed the prototyping stage and is ready for another round of development before it is deployed with EMI.
