GSAM Primary School Extension, India
Project Details
The Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission (GSAM) was founded in 1948 to give practical “hands on” agricultural training for aspiring young farmers. Over the years, the Mission has gradually evolved into a farm home for destitute and orphaned children. EMI began working with GSAM in 2014 to design a new school campus and housing for their staff.
The first building constructed on the 5 building school masterplan was an addition to the primary school. Completed in 2015, this 8,300 sq. ft., two story addition added classroom and laboratory space required to allow the school to continue to add grades as money is raised for the secondary school block.
A unique challenge of the design was incorporating 10 existing columns into the design of the addition. The columns of the building had been constructed when EMI got involved. So the design added 12 more columns to the existing 10 to create the required space for the 6 classrooms and 4 labs.
