Haiti ARISE Children's Home, Haiti
Project Details
In 2002, Haiti ARISE Ministries purchased a 2-acre parcel of land to begin its work in Grand-Goâve, Haiti. A technical school and living facilities were constructed on that land, followed by a church that was planted with 45 new believers. Today that church has over 400 members.Over the years more land was purchased to expand the school and the work grew to include ESL training, monthly rice and clothing distributions, a half-acre community garden and Bible School classes.
The catastrophic earthquake of January 2010 destroyed 90% of Grand-Goâve, including the city hall, the police station and schools. Haiti ARISE's technical school needed to be rebuilt, but its housing survived and became a major staging site for post-earthquake disaster response efforts.
An EMI Canada team visited in June 2011 to develop a master plan for an undeveloped 7-acres parcel land across the street from the main campus and design the buildings for a children's village (orphanage), a school and a church/multi-function conference centre.
