Mercy Ships Dakar
Project Details
Mercy Ships provides surgery as well as strengthening healthcare infrastructure in nations they serve. Two custom-built ships travel the continent of Africa, docking for 10 months and providing over 3000 surgeries each year.
The Africa Hope (pictured left) docked in Senegal in 2019. EMI Senegal was approached to help design and construct their offshore outpatient department called the Hope Center. EMI renovated an old printing workshop facility in the heart of the Dakar industrial zone. Crews worked seven days a week for 3 months to provide an air conditioned, fully-equipped facility to provide a comfortable resting place for recovering patients.
EMI Senegal's design and construction oversight included renovations, plumbing & electrical services, and kitchen services. EMI also worked on a zoning project for the neighbourhood to pump water out during rainy season, as the entire area is below sea level.
