Alejandra López

Architect
EMI Senegal
Joined EMI: November 2023

Professional Training & Experience

While finishing her architectural degree in 2010, Alejandra developed her graduation project for a mission in Senegal. This experience gave her the perspective of culturally appropriate architecture as a strategy for the social and spiritual impact. It was there that her passion for social architecture and professional missions began. She went on to work in different commercial offices, mainly designing housing projects, but she also started a movement of student design volunteers dedicated to social causes. It was through this movement that she came to visit Senegal in 2014 for the second time with two engineering students.

During the next 4 years, she joined the faculty of Universidad Latina, continued her vocation for volunteering, and developed preliminary designs mainly for ministries in Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Senegal. Until, in 2018, she moved to Senegal with her husband and dedicated herself to mission and architecture, collaborating with local ministries. Eventually, she connected with the EMI Senegal office and joined as a part-time staff architect in November 2023.

Ministry Experience

From a young age, while serving in her home church with children, youth, and worship ministry, she discovered that service was one of the best ways to grow spiritually. Over the years she has led several Bible studies and facilitated courses related to discipleship. Besides professional missions, her great passion is Biblical teaching. She also studied theological studies focusing on missiology at the Esepa Bible Seminary and led a movement of Christian professionals in Costa Rica called Cultura Activa (Active Culture). Currently, in addition to her work in EMI, she serves with her husband in Senegal with Bible teaching and discipleship.

Family

Alejandra has been married to Gabriel since 2016, and they have a daughter (born in 2021). They both feel called to serve with the local church in Senegal and be part of what God is already doing here. They enjoy walks on the beach, coffee with friends, watching movies or TV shows, playing chess, and doing anything that their daughter enjoys.
