Though they grew up in very different parts of the world, God started working in Bruce and Hannah’s lives from a young age. During college, God individually reignited their hearts for global missions, landing them both in South Africa where they met. After college they moved to the Washington D.C. area and continued to cultivate their skills as a mechanical engineer and a landscape architect, while growing their heart for people through the local church.
Throughout college and into their early careers the Arensens felt a strong call to apply their education and skill set to serve others while sharing the good news of the gospel. In 2020, amidst a global pandemic, they felt called to join EMI. Bruce, Hannah and their daughters Jamie and Sage now live in Kampala, Uganda. Bruce is a part of the Research and Development team developing culturally appropriate, sustainable, affordable, and transformational solutions to meet design and construction needs across East Africa. Since late 2024, Hannah has been primarily at home with the girls but is still working on projects when she can, bringing her expertise in accessible and sustainable design practices to master plans, campus designs, and stormwater management.
Each year, EMI’s people complete over 100 development projects which serve the poor and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To keep these design services affordable for Christian ministries, professionals like the Arensens on EMI’s staff are responsible for raising their own salaries. We are so grateful for God’s provision through the generosity of donors. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with the great things God is doing through the Arensen’s ministry at EMI?
