Important message about the COVID-19 Coronavirus

In an effort to care for all of our personnel, families, and mission around the world, EMI has been taking a number of steps in response to the progress of COVID-19.

Location-specific Crisis Management Teams remain in place to monitor COVID developments, inform, and care for EMI personnel. Decisions about official EMI travel (including project travel) domestically and internationally are being made on a case-by-case basis by Office Directors in locations concerned. EMI’s worldwide offices remain in varying states of closure with personnel working remotely or from home.

We continue to actively monitor the situation and will respond to new information affecting our worldwide ministry and teams. We view the COVID-19 Coronavirus as an opportunity to live out the gospel and our faith in Jesus through the ministry of EMI.

Spring/Summer 2020

EMI revolves around the person of Jesus and serves the global Church to glorify God through core values that promote Design, Discipleship, and Diversity.

One way EMI is moving forward to instill these core values is to build up the next generation of Ugandan engineers through mentoring programs that not only enhance their technical capabilities but also provide guidance in ethical and healthy workplace practices.

Project Scope

For the past 8 years, EMI has been conducting Survey Practicums, partnering with Ugandan universities to compliment theory taught at these institutions with practical hands-on application of survey equipment and software. These practicums also provide a great platform to share what it is to be a follower of Christ, equipping participants to be a Godly influence in their workplace and community at large.

EMI invites surveyors and CAD drafters to consider being a part of our Survey Practicum training team in Uganda. By serving as a trainer, you can have a significant impact in discipleship of up-and-coming Ugandan engineers. One of the inspiring aspects of this program is the diversity offered by having former Ugandan students also serve as trainers, sharing their faith and experiences alongside international volunteer trainers.

Moses Iranya, a Ugandan student from the 2014 Survey Practicum and intern/training assistant in 2015, expresses his appreciation for this program in this way: “I am what I am today because eMi gave me an opportunity; an opportunity that has transformed me, that has made me a better person, more confident and competent than ever before. My faith is stronger! All glory to God!” You can hear the impact of this program firsthand from other former Ugandan student participants here.

There are 2 Survey Practicum being delivered in Uganda this coming spring/summer:

Introduction to Survey Practicum – Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Uganda. May 3rd to May 15th. This is for 30 – 3rd year Civil/Environmental engineering students. See Schedule for volunteer needs.

Intensive Survey Practicum – EMI Uganda Office, Kajjansi Airfield, Uganda. June 1st to July 24th (multiple sessions available). This is for 9 selected Geomatics Engineering students from various universities. See Schedule for volunteer needs. Volunteers are invited to volunteer for one week or combination of multiple one week sessions.

Please join us as we build capacity in Ugandan engineers, and help be a part of designing a world of hope.
