LBIM (Lutheran Brethren International Mission) has a fruitful and growing presence in Chad, Central Africa. Chad is very ethnically diverse and is home to the largest concentration of unreached people groups in Africa where Islam is the primary system of belief. LBIM has asked EMI to aid in the master planning of a new riverfront property they have acquired outside of N’Djamena which they plan to use for discipleship and training of Muslim background believers. One of the site’s biggest needs is a design solution to mitigate erosion of a riverbank on the property.
Project Scope
LBIM sends missionaries to live and work among unreached people groups to share the gospel in word and deed. One of the primary ways they accomplish their mission is through education. They have three thriving schools around Chad where the gospel is shared everyday with children who have never heard it. The waiting lists for these schools are very long because families in the community have noticed what a positive impact they are having on the children who are able to attend!
This new facility that LBIM wants to develop will serve as a discipleship and training facility for Chadians who come to know God. After coming to faith, the next phase is so critical. Just as we learn in the parable of the seeds which were scattered, those seeds which are successfully planted but do not grow in favorable conditions are at risk. But seeds which are planted in good soil can grow and multiply. This new facility aims to be the good soil.
EMI will be partnering with LBIM to design a full masterplan for this facility on a 1.5 acre “green field” river front property which is located on the north side of the Chari River east of N’Djamena. There are a few small pre-existing structures on site and minimal access to utilities. EMI’s scope includes designing concepts for water supply and sanitation, onsite wastewater treatment, site drainage, riverbank erosion control and electrical supply systems as well as a site building plan and one or more architectural building concepts.
