Santiago Christian School is growing to meet strong demand for enrollment.
EMI is partnering with SCS in development of a new masterplan and conceptual designs to prepare for growth.
Project Scope
Santiago Christian School has been the main English-medium international school in Santiago, Dominican Republic since 1967. Known for offering academic excellence, SCS emphasizes its Christian mission and values, laying a foundation for faith in among the nearly 700-strong student population.
After the uncertainty of COVID-era remote school, demand for enrollment at SCS has rebounded, putting pressure on the campus and existing facilities. The call for SCS to grow is clear and steps are being made to prepare for that growth. At the same time, the school recognizes the importance for this growth to be appropriate and sustainable in their context.
EMI is preparing a multi-disciplinary team of design professionals to partner with SCS in the development of a new masterplan, incorporating new property, as well as conceptual design of a new classroom building, gymnatorium, and other academic facilities, with their associated engineering services support.
In addition to design, EMI will be conducting a sustainability assessment of SCS - which is also an opportunity for volunteer professional development / training with this EMI project event. Prior experience in sustainability assessment frameworks (e.g. LEED) is preferrable, but not required.
Come to Santiago with EMI this summer and be part of enabling the growth of this important ministry in the Dominican Republic!
Note: Spanish language skills are welcome/preferred, but not necessary for participating on this design team.
