EMI Canada is excited to partner with Hope Institute of Uganda led by Dr. Joy Ngobi and her team. EMI has been asked to help develop and plan the design of a new Guesthouse and Christian Camp on their 9 Acre site located on the shores of Lake Victoria east of Jinja.
Priority #1 will be to prepare detailed level of design for the Guesthouse building that will need to accommodate up to 32 people at one time. The Guesthouse will serve as a base of operations for the medical mission teams serving in hospitals nearby, and host to the volunteer construction teams that will serve on short term mission trips in the future to build out the remaining Christian Camp site.
EMI has also been tasked to develop a Concept level Master Plan for the Christian Camp.
Project Scope
Hope Institute of Uganda (HIU) is a Christian non-profit organization led by Dr. Joy Ngobi and her team that bring medical mission teams to serve in hospitals within Uganda, and also provide educational subsidies and scholarships for children in Uganda that are unable to pay the costs themselves. The vision is to build a Guesthouse to host their medical teams, and also a Christian Camp to provide vocational practical training and a place to share the love of Jesus Christ to the youth they serve.
HIU own about 9 acres (3.6 Ha) of land near Buluba Hospital east of Jinja. The property is located next to Lake Victoria with beautiful lake shorefront property. The vision is to build a Guesthouse and Christian Camp on the land. Construction of the Guesthouse will be the first priority as it will serve as a base of operations for hosting their short term medical mission teams onsite instead of in hotels in Jinja, which is more expensive and costly. When completed, the Guesthouse will allow Hope Institute to host ministry partners onsite that will assist with building out the rest of the future Christian Camp.
The Guesthouse needs to accommodate up to 32 people at one time with a mix of both male and female. The guesthouse would ideally have some single rooms, double occupancy rooms and some family suites. They anticipate the guests to be ordinary Ugandans, tourists and missionaries. The guest house needs to use solar power. And having a basement would be very useful for the group. Hope Institute also needs space for teams to gather, to eat, and to pray. Therefore, having 1-2 conference rooms would be helpful. Rooms need to be spacious and with big windows that let in the beautiful sunshine.
Hope Institute leadership have visited Musana Camps in Uganda, which is another EMI designed Christian Camp project, and loved the style and function of their Guesthouse. Consequently, EMI will be organizing a site visit to Musana Campus for the team to see the Guesthouse for themselves and gain inspiration.
Finally, EMI has been asked to prepare a Concept level Master Plan for the Christian Camp to think through phasing and planning of programs for the future camp once the Guesthouse is built.
I am looking for design professionals ready to volunteer and join the EMI team tasked with this work.
If this is you, please hit the “I'm interested” button and I will be in contact with you shortly. Thanks again for your interest!
