We are excited to work with Archbishop Janani Luwum Vocational Training Institute (AJLVTI) and Fields of Life (FoL) to provide a master plan update and conceptual building designs for the next phase of the Vocational Training Institute (VTI) in Gulu, Uganda. VTI's vision is to see educated and skilled young people, inspired by faith, hope and love, transform their communities. The ministry is founded on Christian values and focuses on helping transform this post-conflict area in Uganda by providing the opportunity of new skills and employment to hundreds of young people. The development of the Vocational Training Institute will contribute significantly to fostering a skills-based economy by producing job creators, not just job seekers.

Project Scope

The scope for this project includes:

  1. Work with VTI to update the space program for all buildings and site amenities to be included in the ultimate site development,
  2. Develop a proposed master plan showing all planned developments for the parcel (buildings, parking, walkways, etc.) for the next 10-20 years based on the space program.  The master plan will illustrate site/civil drainage concepts to support the development of the campus,
  3. Create conceptual-level architectural floor plans, sections and elevations for the next priority building, which we understand to be an Administration Block. Future buildings beyond that phase will be shown as masses on the master plan only.
  4. Assess and provide civil engineering recommendations for site grading, drainage, water and sanitation systems,
  5. Assess and provide recommendations for electrical supply and distribution systems,
  6. Provide two or three renderings of the next priority building and/or site to support fundraising,
  7. Collaborate with the EMI Uganda office, to review the conceptual master plan and proposed building design to provide estimated construction cost for the project. EMI will incorporate the rough-order-of-magnitude (ROM) cost estimate into the final report narrative to support the ministry’s planning and fundraising efforts,
  8. Issue a narrative explaining the rationale behind the master plan, proposed buildings, and proposed engineering infrastructure. This narrative is intended to help the future design professionals that AJLVTI will hire to provide the detailed construction-level documents and construction oversight once funding is in place.

If you feel called to volunteer your time, skills and expertise as we partner with Fields of Life on this exciting, Christ-centered project, we would love to hear from you!
