Project Scope

Living Water International has targeted four communities in the Chimaltenango department to the west of Guatemala City to participate in a regional community development plan.

The topography of the region is mountainous, with limited & varied access to clean water sources due to surface contamination, a deep ground water table (estimated around 850-950 ft), and aging existing infrastructure that may no longer be adequate or operational for the communities. All this leaves many households without access to reliable, sustainable water sources.

LWI's goal is to narrow or eliminate the gaps in water service to the communities, improving overall water resiliency.

EMI Nicaragua is assembling a team of engineers to support LWI's work with an engineering assessment and feasibility study, visiting the four target communities to research and investigate conditions and possibilities.

This work will include, providing hydrogeologic survey recommendations, water source assessments with their treatment and infrastructure recommendations, water demand calculations with storage and distribution recommendations, integration / expansion of existing systems for better resilience and efficiency, and more.

We anticipate spending 2-3 days in each community for a 10-day project trip overall in early October.

Two volunteer hydrogeologists are already on board and we're looking to add 2 CEs and an EE to fill out the team! Spanish skills are most welcome but not required.

Come join EMI and Living Water International as we discover how to supply clean water to these communities in Guatemala!
