EMI is excited to engage in this project to strengthen the Ghanaian health system at critical facilities located in rural areas. The project aims to bring wholistic improvement and sustainability to the hospital, both through infrastructure and operational strategic planning. These improvements will allow the facility to function as a cornerstone of healthcare in the region and equip it to serve the community for generations to come.

Project Scope

This trip will be the first in a series of engagements with the hospital, as master planning efforts will span through the end of 2026. The goal of this first trip is to complete a full assessment of the existing infrastructure in every discipline: civil, electrical, structural and architectural. The team will be documenting site conditions and hearing from users about future needs. There will also be an architectural programming effort to comprehensively capture the hospital's current state and needs for future expansion and development. The aim of this first trip is to gather all of the baseline information necessary in order to create a master plan in a future trip engagement (Fall 2026).

This trip offers an exciting opportunity for evidence-based design, as we will have an opportunity to gather comprehensive background information. It will also be matched by efforts in creating a sustainable business plan and increasing leadership capacity through training. These efforts propel the project's goal to equip the hospital with longevity to serve their community with quality healthcare for many generations.
