The Nuba Mountains region of Sudan has been in an almost-constant state of conflict since 1989. Due to instability, lack of investment, and even direct attacks on schools, many children have not been able to access education. With relative rest from the conflict the past several years, God has given To Move Mountains (TMM) a vision to start a school with a contextually relevant curriculum that educates children and trains teachers from all over the region, lifting the level of education in the Nuba Mountains. With education, lives are transformed in improved livelihoods, governance, and cultural enrichment. All of this is done openly in the name of Christ as a great witness to the Father's heart for the people of the Nuba Mountains. With time, TMM aims to have a network of primary schools all over the Nuba Mountain Region, with this one being the first of many.
EMI is excited to serve TMM and play a role in the redeeming work of the Kingdom of God in the Nuba Mountains. You can learn more about TMM by clicking on the "Ministry Website" link at the bottom of this page.
Project Scope
The existing property owned by TMM is approximatley 10 acres in size. The property will consist of the school grounds, as well as a teacher's housing compound. The school property is planned to house roughly 16 buildings, including
- 10 Classrooms
- 2 Dormitories
- Office Block
- Kitchen Block
- 2 Latrines
Our team will survey the property and provide a master plan and conceptual designs for the first phase of construction, which includes two classrooms, an office block, a kitchen, and latrines. The team will also provide recommendations for water and wastewater systems, with an emphasis on sustainable methods. Lastly, several buildings will be planned to have solar power.
The EMI team will work with TMM leadership, trainers, and community stakeholders to provide a contextually-based design that will serve the students and teachers for many years.
We are looking to mobilize a small team of 4-5 EMI staff and volunteers to Sudan for 2.5 weeks. Will you prayerfully consider giving your time to serve the people of the Nuba Mountains?
